Who doesn’t love spring? There’s nothing like the dark, frigid energy of winter shifting into something new, fresh, and bright. New opportunities, new growth, and most importantly new photos! Although spring is one of my favorite times of year to capture photos- it brings its own set of challenges: rainstorms, harsh sunlight, and BRIGHT green backgrounds to name a few. Here are six tips to ensure that despite the obstacles, your spring photos with your Indiana photographer turn out gorgeous!
This might seem counterintuitive at first, but since the surroundings of spring are already SO vibrant, wearing bright colors creates harsh photos and takes attention away from the subject: you!
Opt for solid, more neutral colors to avoid adding to the craziness. This will create a great contrast for your Indiana photographer while also complimenting the spring greens.
Pro Tip: A denim jacket is super cute and the perfect accessory for a chillier day!
Whoever said “April showers bring May flowers” has clearly never photographed portraits in May. It can and will rain at any point during the springtime! It’s a good idea to have a backup plan in case the original session gets rained out.
If you have an engagement or portrait session with an Indiana photographer, I suggest bringing cute umbrellas that compliment your outfit! (The clear ones are ADORABLE.) You can also choose a location indoors or under a shelter!
There is no better way to personalize a session with your Indiana photographer than by bringing a fun prop! Have a favorite flower? Or a cute hat? Want your dog to come along? Whatever it is, bringing a prop is a great way to spice up your photos and make them more memorable! Nothing shouts “personality” like posing with something that’s special and unique to you.
When thinking about location, consider the landscape. Do you want pictures with a great big open field stretched out behind you? Do you want to have the option to pose in front of a forest AND by a creek? A location with variety and multiple landscapes allows for many different types of photos.
My personal favorites as an Indiana photographer are locations with waterways- I love the happy spring vibes they give!
Sure, your mom or your cousin might have some ideas about how you should get your photos taken, but what do YOU want? At the end of the day these are YOUR photos and you should have them done how and where you want!
As an Indiana photographer, I want all of my clients to have a fun, personalized experience when working with me. Each couple is unique and interesting in their own way and the location, outfits, and props, should reflect that. Don’t be afraid to do it your way!
It’s not everyday that you have the opportunity to get your photos taken professionally by an Indiana photographer, so remember to have fun! When you look back 20 years from now, you’re going to be remembering not only your relationship but all of the fun you had when these photos were taken!
